Louis James “Jim” Flamand, 97, died of natural causes at his residence on Monday, June 24, 2024 surrounded by his daughters & family. He was born November 7, 1926 at the family home in Durham on the Blackfeet Reservation to Mary Salois Flamand & Edward Flamand. He was the second child of five sons.
He served in the United States Army in World War II and the Korean War where he was in the 2nd Division Infantry and was very proud of his time spent fighting for his country & people. Jim always told stories of his time there to his daughters, his entire family and anyone who wanted to hear the history of his experience. While serving Jim received a Purple Heart (The Purple Heart (PH) is a United States military decoration awarded in the name of the president to those wounded or killed).
He married the love of his life Rose Marie Morris Flamand on August 14, 1954 in Cardston, Alberta, Canada. Jim started his career for Great Northern/Burlington Northern/Sante Fe when he was 14 years old and continued to work for them after two separate deployments in the United State Army. Following his retirement after 45 years with Great Northern/Burlington Northern/Santa Fe, Jim enjoyed his weekly trips with his wife Rose and spending time with his grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Visitation is Wednesday, June 26, 2024 from 1:00–7:00 p.m. at Whitted Funeral Home, 130 6th Ave SE, Cut Bank, MT 59427 and a Military Graveside Service on Thursday, June 27, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at the Montana State Veterans Cemetery – Fort Harrison, 3550 Heros Road, Helena, MT 59636 where he will be put to rest with his wife Rose.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Mary; brothers, Samson, Leo (Patricia), Ed Jr. (Betty) and Albert (Sandy) Flamand; nieces Myrna Hoyt and Leanne Flamand; great-grandson Stetson Dale Bird.
Jim is survived by his children Brenda (Dale) Bird, Mary (Paul) Reevis and Terry (Ted) Flamand; sister-in-laws Evelyn Bird Rattler & Patricia Whitford; grandchildren Mandi (JR) Kennerly, Roseanna Racine, Richard (Sicily) Bird, Ronnie (Jennifer) Racine, Jr. and James Cole (Whitney) Guardipee; great-grandchildren Branden (Taryn) Bird-Cole, Jhett & Isabelle Kennerly, Skylar & Zachary (Ashley) Anderson & Tia Kuntz, Riley & Payson Bird, Teeona, Christopher & Jaden Racine, Elijah, Tal, Aria, James & Jesse Guardipee; great-great grandchildren Amelia & Trey Cole, Liam & Noah Anderson; and numerous nieces and nephews who he loved dearly.
