Margaret E. (Maloney) Sill, 91, of Valier, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2019.
Memorial mass will be held Tuesday, March 19, at 11:00 AM at St. Francis Catholic Church.
Margaret was born August 18, 1927 in Butte to Samuel and Evelane Maloney. She attended grade school at Alder, MT and freshmen and sophomore years in Virginia City, MT. Margaret graduated from Sheridan High School. After graduating she worked on a Dude Ranch as a cook. She learned the art of cookie baking. Later when she lived in Soldotna, Alaska she was know as the “Cookie Lady”. When she lived in Helena, she worked for an insurance company.
In 1949 Margaret attended Nurse Training at Columbus School of Nursing Training. In 1952 she met Walt Sill while he was still enlisted in the Air Force. They were married shortly after and had two children, Pauline in 1953 and Robert in 1955.
During this time Margaret worked at St. Peter’s Hospital as a Registered Nurse and later was employed at the VA Hospital for several years.
In 1969 Walter and Margaret moved to their ranch in Dupuyer. While ranching in Valier she worked at the Pioneer Home (now the PMC Extended Care) and later was the administrator for 8 years. Margaret retired and they spent the next 20 years in Alaska. After returning home to Valier Margaret had heart valve problems and eventually passed away with her children and husband at her side. She went with her Lord to her Heavenly Home. She was a strong Catholic and lived her religious life to the fullest.
Survivors include her husband, Walter; children, Pauline (Ron) Carpenter and Robert (Sandra) Sill; 6 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and brother, Mike, of Alder.
She is preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.
