Margaret L (Spreeuw) Smith

October 24, 1932 — April 24, 2013

Margaret L. Smith passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at the Northern Rockies Medical Center in Cut Bank.  Cremation has taken place. Services will be held at a later date and the family will be interring her remains in the Smith Plot at Crown Hill Cemetery at that time. Whitted Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.

Margaret was born on October 24, 1932 in Pendroy to John Spreeuw and Dorothy Robinson Spreeuw and was to be the eldest child of four. At the time, her father was working in the coal mines. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to the Leo Quesnell Ranch west of Cut bank on Seville Flats where her father raised sheep.

Margaret married James William Smith in Cut Bank on May 23, 1948. They have three sons, Daryl D. (Jan) Smith, James W. Smith, Jr. (who died on July 4, 1976) and Robert A. Smith. After her husband James (Bill) died in 2001, Margaret moved onto the family farm with her son Robert, where she was residing at the time of her death.

In years past, Margaret worked tirelessly for the Democratic Party including serving on the Glacier County Democratic Central Committee, chairing the Glacier County Democratic Women’s Club and participating in the Democratic Booth at the Marias Fair.

As her children were growing she devoted endless hours being a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts, making sure her boys played baseball and attending their games in several states and two Canadian provinces. She became an avid wrestling fan when her sons got to high school. She was a very devoted and loving mother.

Margaret hated to see anyone she loved being unhappy and would be bulldoggish in trying to help everyone if she could.

She is survived by her two sons; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Her brother, Robert (Terri) Spreeuw also survives her.
