Marilyn J. Harshbarger

June 25, 1935 — October 20, 2017

Marilyn Jean (LaGrange) Harshbarger (82), longtime resident of Shelby, passed away in Shelby from natural causes on October 20, 2017.

Marilyn was born June 25, 1935 in Plentywood, Montana to George and Alice (Syme) LaGrange.  She was raised on the family farm in Raymond, Montana along with her younger sister Dorothy.  Marilyn graduated from Plentywood High School in 1954.  In June of 1955 she married the love of her life, Robert Divine Harshbarger.  From that union five (5) children were born:  Robert, Carolyn, Randal, Judy, and Tina.  During the early years the family moved around a lot before settling in Shelby.

Marilyn was an active member of the Daughter of the Nile and the First Baptist Church in Shelby.  She enjoyed fishing and family gatherings.  Marilyn was also an accomplished bowler, who enjoyed bowling league and competing in tournaments throughout the country.  In nearly 50 years of bowling she bowled a 300 game and finished 3rd in the National Seniors Bowling tournament in 2013.

Marilyn is preceded in death by parents, George and Alice LaGrange; her husband, Robert D Harshbarger; her son, Robert Harshbarger Jr.; and her grandson, Benjamin J. Roark.  She is survived by her sister, Dorothy (Daryl) Olson of Plentywood; and her children, Carolyn Zachary of Boulder, Randal Harshbarger of Shelby, Judy Abell of Campbellsville, KY, and Tina (Daniel) Roark of Oilmont; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, October 25th at First Baptist Church of Shelby with a reception following the service at the church. Private grave site services for family will follow.  The family asks that any memorials be made to Shriners Children Hospital.
