Mary Catherine (Stibel) Johns, 56, a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and nurse passed away unexpectedly after a short battle with cancer on September 23 rd at Pondera Medical Center in Conrad. Mary was born November 24 th , 1959 in Conrad, Montana to John and Catherine Stibel. She excelled at academics and athletics while attending Conrad High School. Mary went on to receive her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing at Montana State University. While attending MSU she was a proud member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. Shortly after graduating college she returned to Conrad and married her High School sweetheart and soulmate, Jerry Johns, on March 23 rd , 1984. That same year, she started her career in nursing at Pondera Medical Center and was a devoted and tireless caregiver to the community for the next 32 years. Throughout those years, Mary and Jerry were blessed with four beautiful children who all inherited her wonderful zest for life. She mastered the art of balancing family, career, and being a farm wife.
Mary was devoted to her children and enjoyed supporting all of their activities. She never missed a game and was her children’s biggest fan. Mary became famous for her skits at the Homecoming pep assembly, baking treats, decorating, fundraising, as well as FUNraising. Mary cooked with love and delivered countless homemade meals to community members and friends. She was an active member of the Conrad Booster Club, St. Michael’s Catholic Church, and organized numerous hospital events.
Mary enjoyed camping with friends and family, boating, water/snow skiing, traveling, baking, riding Harleys, and watching football. She was an avid fan of the Conrad Cowboys and Cowgirls, MSU Bobcats, and Chicago Bears. Mary was full of life, love, and happiness and enhanced the lives of everyone she met. Her contagious laugh and smile will always be remembered. Mary had the gift of making everyone feel welcome and part of the family. She is loved by many and will be missed by all.
Mary is survived by her loving husband of 32 years, Jerry; children Bryce (Heather), Grant, Rashelle (Riley DeBruycker), and Jenae; mother Catherine Stibel of Conrad, MT; brother John (Terri) Stibel, of Culver City, CA; brother Pat (Mary) Stibel, of Great Falls, MT; sister and best friend Ann (Dave) Philipps of Lewistown, MT; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father John Stibel of Conrad, MT.
Memorials may be made to Conrad Booster Club or Conrad Dollar for Scholars.
Vigil services will be held Thursday, September 29, at 7:00pm and funeral mass will be Friday, September 30, at 11:00am both at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. A reception will follow the mass in the church parish hall.
