Mary Jane Moore

December 20, 1927 — June 14, 2012

Mary Jane Moore, a retired registered nurse, passed away on June 14, 2012 from complications of a stroke at the Marias Care Center in Shelby MT. A memorial service will be held at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m., on August 1, 2012, followed by spreading of ashes and a dedication ceremony at the Glacier County Museum in the afternoon. Whitted Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Conolences may be posted at www.whittedfuneralchapel.com.
Mary Jane was born on December 20, 1927, to Alex and Elsie (Rhinesmith) Craig, in Patterson, New Jersey. After graduating from high school in Nutley, NJ, she attended Mountainside School of Nursing where she became a Registered Nurse. On her way to her first position at Queen's Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii, she met her future husband, Jack Moore. The train they were traveling on became stranded in Wyoming in deep snow.
After a nine month assignment in Hawaii, she followed Jack to Cut Bank where they married. She continued her nursing career at Cut Bank Memorial Hospital. After having her two sons, she continued to work as a nurse at the clinic of Drs. Marquette and West, where she endeared herself to many of the patients.
In the mid-1970's, she and a few dedicated others began a quest to establish a museum for Cut Bank. This became a serious passion for the remainder of her life. Her devotion to the Glacier County Museum touched many around her and enhanced the Cut Bank community. The Lewis and Clark Days, which included historic re-enactments of the Lewis and Clark expeditions, sprang from this passion.
Mary Jane's other interests included sewing, gardening, the occasional crossword puzzle, and keeping her house as neat as a pin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, and her father and mother. She is survived by her two sons; Craig, of Seattle, WA, and Pat of Shelby; six grandchildren, and her sister, Betsy Lucy of Placerville, CA.
Memorials may be sent to the Glacier County Museum, 107 Old Kevin Hwy., Cut Bank, MT. 59427, ph: 406-873-4904.
