Michael (Mike) A. Lamey, age 47, of Shelby, Montana, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, on August 11, 2015, when the Lord led him to heaven.
Viewing will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm and a vigil service will begin at 7:00 pm, both on Sunday, August 16, at Whitted Funeral Chapel in Shelby. A first responder procession will take Mike through downtown Shelby between 10:10-10:20 am on Monday, August 17. A funeral service will follow at 10:30 am on Monday, August 17 at the Shelby High School Auditorium. Funeral attendees are asked to be seated by 10:25 am. Special Law Enforcement Honors will follow.
Mike was born on November 7, 1967 to Joan and Clint Lamey in Havre, Montana. He attended schools in Havre until 1982 when his family relocated to Shelby, where he graduated from high school in 1986. Mike was active in football, wrestling, track and his favorite activity, choir. Mike won many awards for his musical talents and, in 1985, toured Europe with the Montana Youth Choir.
In 1986, following his high school graduation, he began his career in Law Enforcement beginning as a dispatcher. In 1988 he became a deputy sheriff for Roosevelt County, Montana, where he worked until 1991, and then joined the Toole County, Montana Sheriff’s Department. He served first as a Deputy, and then as Chief Deputy and finally as Under Sheriff, where he served until his passing. He received many awards and commendations for his tireless efforts serving the community including the Jaycee’s Citizen of the Year Award, twice, and many advanced law enforcement administrative certifications. Mike also was proud to serve as the Dare Officer in Toole County from 1998 until 2012.
In 1990 Mike married the love of his life, Karen (Kari) Savage. In 1994 Mike and Kari gave birth to their first child, Kress. In 1996 their daughter Maesynne was born, and lastly, in 1997, their son Kraye was born. Mike was a wonderful dad and a mere mention of his kids would yield a smile and noticeable pride.
Mike was a friend to everyone who met him and had an uncanny ability to help people even in the worst situations.
Mike is survived by his wife of 25 years Kari Lamey; his children Kress (Ashton) age 21, Maesynne age 19, and Kraye age 18. He is also survived by his mother Joan Lamey; his sisters Kathy Lamey and Dawnie (John) Lamey Adkins; his brothers John and Keith Lamey; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clint Lamey, a brother Craig Lamey and many aunts, uncles and friends.
The family suggest memorial donations be made to a special account set up for the children of Mike at First State Bank of Shelby, P.O. Box 913, Shelby, MT, 59474.
