Patrick Ernest Thorn, 71, lost his battle with cancer at his home on September 10, 2013. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 16 th from 1-6 pm at Whitted Funeral Chapel in Shelby. His family and friends will gather on Tuesday, September 17 th at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church at 4 pm for services in honor of Pat’s life. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery.
Pat was born on September 4, 1942 in Portland, Oregon, and was the third of five children born to James and Helen Thorn. He was raised and educated in Havre and Glasgow and then on to Great Falls. In his younger days Pat experienced a full array of ‘wild and crazy’ times enjoying the company of his siblings, cousins and many friends.
He met his soul-mate, Coni, and they were married on April 8, 1972. They made their home in Shelby where they raised their three daughters. Pat began his 30 year career with the Montana Power Company. He later owned and operated Thorn Refrigeration. Pat spent many a waking hour teaching his girls to ski, camp, fish, roller skate, hike and all the lessons of life. His life was dedicated to his family and friends. He adored his wife, three girls, grandchildren, and every little baby he came across.
Photography, skiing, and bowling held his attention but woodworking filled his retirement days when he wasn’t absorbed in yet another western movie or playing cards at the Senior Center.
He was a faithful member of St Luke’s Lutheran Church. He will always be remembered as a loving and caring companion, father/grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be sorely missed by all who shared his life. We all take comfort in knowing that he is now with the Lord. We’ll see you on the other side!
