Pearl Juliet (Helgeson) Halmrast

February 9, 1921 — February 14, 2014

Pearl Juliet (Helgeson) Halmrast, 93, of Kevin, passed on to be with her "Special Valentine" Lloyd, Friday, February 14, 2014, at the Marias Care Center. Visitation is Thursday, February 20, from 1:00 until 7:00 pm with the family receiving friends from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at the Whitted Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Friday, February 21, at the Sunburst Lutheran Church. A reception will immediately follow service in Sunburst with graveside services at 4:30 pm at the Valley View Cemetery in Shelby.

Pearl was born February 9, 1921 to Elmer and Johanna (Dahl) Helgeson on the family farm near Powers Lake, ND, where she graduated from high school in 1939, after which she attended Peggy’s School of Beauty at Minot. Pearl was very talented and played Organ, piano, accordion and harmonica, and she and her brothers had a band all through high school. Pearl Loved to play old time traditional and Christian Music which often times included her up-beat tempo. She was also a talented artist painting many beautiful pictures.

On June 27, 1941 she married her high school sweetheart, Lloyd Halmrast at Santa Monica, CA. To this union came daughters Peggy and Pauline. Lloyd passed away the 15th of February 2011 shortly before their 70th anniversary.

While Lloyd was working for Douglas Aircraft and serving his country overseas, Pearl worked 7 years as office manager for Safeway. While Lloyd was serving in the Phillipines Pearl and a couple friends on Sundays would cruise the streets and throw a packages of cigarettes to any soldier they might see.

In 1947 they moved to Kevin and along with brother-in-law Obert Carlson, took over the operation of the Peoples Market that they then owned and operated for over 30 years. They were very active in the Kevin community and supported every activity they could. Pearl was an excellent cook and always made sure that the single men in town never went hungry. Pearl was a very kind and giving person as all can attest to. Pearl dearly loved her grandchildren and always loved spending time with them.

She was a member of the Sunburst Lutheran Church, VFW Ladies Auxiliary and enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting, and playing music.

Survivors include her daughters, Peggy Hanson of Cut Bank and Pauline (Don) Taylor of Lewistown;  grandchildren, Julie (Jeff) Hanson Wray, Tennessee, Jason (Tawna) Hanson, Sunburst, Kimberly ( Bryce) Hanson Simpson, Frenchtown, Mandy Taylor, Florida; nine great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Pearl Helgeson, California, and Gloria Helgeson, Minnesota; along with many nieces and nephews

She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Ellen Carlson; brothers, Oren, Henry, Arthur, Kenneth, Ernie, Orville and baby Lloyd; and a grandchild, Nathan Taylor.

We Love You and will miss you Mom, Grandma, Auntie Pearl.
