Ralph Dee Shettel, 86, passed on January 18, 2023 in CutBank during a hospital stay. Ralph was born in Chester to Mildred and Alva Shettel on December 7, 1936. He was the 5th child of the family, 5 boys and 3 girls.
When Ralph was a week old he developed a high fever and pneumonia and almost did not survive. He started school in Chester but it was hard for him. Ralph lived and worked on the farm with his dad for many years. He loved being outdoors. When the farm was sold to his brother he continued to work with Alva restoring many old cars. They restored a 1945 car and Alva even let him drive it to town a few times! He attended church with his parents and went on many road trips with them.
Ralph and Alva moved to Chester for 2 years. Ralph moved to Great Falls for 22 years. He kept busy with his greenhouse, his garden, his art, and his jobs. Just this year, end of September, he moved to assisted living in Shelby. He immediately liked living there and was very happy. His heart condition acted up and while in a hospital stay passed and went to see the Lord and his family. Ralph will be missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Doris Couturier; 3 brothers, John, Franklin, and Jerry. Survivors include sisters, Frances Hawks, Dorothy (Rudy) Forester and brother, Jim (Dolores) Shettel.
Funeral service will be Friday, January 27, at 2:00pm at Rockman Funeral Chapel. Burial to follow in Chester Cemetery.
