Randy McClanahan

June 22, 1948 — June 23, 2016

Randall Rollin McClanahan, 68, passed away on June 23, 2016 at his home in East Glacier Park, MT. He is survived by his wife Keri; children Timothy McClanahan and Kristen Messegee, former wife Kaki McClanahan, grandchildren Oliver and Violet, brother Don Woods and uncle James Ferris (who was a brother in kind), and stepfather Jerrel Woods. He was preceded in death by his mother Vivian M. Woods, his father Dale McClanahan and his sister Robin Fitzpatrick.

Randy was born June 22 nd , 1948 in Weiser, Idaho and later moved to Montana with his family. He attended Browning High School, and joined the Army soon after graduating in 1966. Sargent "Mac" served his country in the Vietnam War, and after returning home he served in the Honor Guard, caring for the fallen soldiers. He attended Montana State University and then moved to Olympia Washington assuming ownership of the family business, "The Hitch Shop". His motto at the shop was "Nobody goes thru life without a hitch!"

Randy returned to East Glacier Park, owning the local gas station, working for The Trails End construction, and then working for The State of Montana until his retirement. Randy was a member of AFSCME, Local 1900 and The Warrior’s Society. When asked how they would describe him, his friends and family said – "kind", "hardworking", "generous", "fair", "funny", "admirable", "strong", and "honorable". He loved automobiles and had a real talent for restoration and repair. He was known to the whole town as the man who would always have a smile, a friendly demeanor, and some good advice. He always had time for those who needed him and would do whatever he could to help. He will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he has touched.

His philosophy on life can be summed up by one of his favorite quotes -

"In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing…

the worst thing you can do is nothing"

Theodore Rosevelt

A celebration of Randy’s life will be held at The Gallup Corral on August 6, 2016 at 2:00 p.m.
