Raymond David Salois, age 83 of Cut Bank, Montana, passed away peacefully at the Glacier Care Center on April 5, 2016.
Ray will be privately inurned at Lake View Cemetery in Valier. A memorial service will be at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, April 12 at the Cut Bank Elk’s Club. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitted Funeral Chapel, Cut Bank.
Ray was born in Dupuyer, Montana, on April 7, 1932. He was the youngest of five boys, born to Dave and Lizzie (Chadwick) Salois. He graduated from Valier High School. He proudly served his country in the Korean War. He attended barber school in Spokane, Washington.
Ray was married to the love of his life, Shirley Mae Hale, on November 5, 1960. They were happily married for 55 wonderful years. From their union were born two daughters, who blessed them with four grandchildren.
He worked as a barber for 50 plus years. After retiring he was elected a Glacier County Commissioner. He was an avid outdoorsman, who like to hunt, fish, ride horses, dancing and spending time in the mountains. Ray especially enjoyed golfing and on any given day would be out on the course playing a few holes before work.
He was a two term President of the Cut Bank Golf and Country Club. A Life Member of the Cut Bank Elks Club and served on its house committee. Chairman of the Glacier County Commissioners. He was a Trustee for Glacier Electric Co-op. Served on the Finance Review Board at Parkview Senior center. He was also a member of the Warrior Society on the Blackfeet Reservation and a member of the American Legion Post 6104. An officer for the local and Tri-County VFW.
On March 27, 2008 Ray received the Cut Bank Chamber of Commerce Distinguished Citizen of the Year Award. One of his proudest accomplishment was to have helped get the Veterans Clinic established in Cut Bank.
Ray was a big man with a big heart. He had an infectious smile with bright twinkling blue eyes and enjoyed helping others. Spending time with his family was his greatest joy.
Ray is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Mae Salois, daughters, Karla Rae and Andy Harvie of Cut Bank, Karen Lee and Tony Anton of Villa Park, Illinois; grandchildren, Allie Marie Anton, Taylor Mae Harvie, Jace David Harvie and Beckie Mae Anton. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Dave and Lizzie Salois; brothers, Roy Salois, Everett Salois, Vernon Salois and Martin Salois; and numerous aunts and uncles.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the Parkview Senior Center, 17 East Main Street, Cut Bank, MT 59427.
