Rita M Nation, 84, died February 23, 2012, at the Marias Medical Center in Shelby from natural causes. Visitation is Tuesday, February 28, after 1:00 pm at the Whitted Funeral Chapel in Shelby where the Rosary Service will be held at 7 pm. The Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday, February 29, 2012, at St William Catholic Church in Shelby, followed by a reception in the church parish hall. Graveside service and burial will be at 1:00 PM in the Choteau Cemetery at Choteau. Whitted Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be posted at www.whittedfuneralchapel.com.
Rita was born on January 3, 1928 in Cashton, Wisconsin to Albert and Eleanora (Frederick) Hemmersbach. On April 14, 1947 she and Leon Nation were married in Moorhead, Minnesota and subsequently moved to Browning. They became the owners of the M&N Motel which is now the Western Motel. In later years they built the Western Curios shop. Rita and Leon were married for 39 years. Rita had lived in Browning for 41 years until 1988 when she retired and moved to Shelby.
Rita is survived by her children, Rollye (Gail) Nation of Shelby, Raymond (Shirley) Nation of Evansville< Indiana, Linda (Rick) Williamson of Heart Butte, and Carol Estes of Browning; sisters, Marion (Matt) Steidl, JoAnn (Robert) Dechant, Francis (Lamont) Dechant all of Tomah, WI, Theresa (William) Abbott of Blackriver Falls, WI, Lucille Dickman of Cashton, WI, Magdalen Schaller of Waukon, WI, and Rosaila(Mark) Hammes of Sparta, WI; brothers, Lambert (Mary) Hemmersbach of Tomah, WI, and James (Mary) Hemmersbach of Brooklyn, WI; as well as 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her parents and her husband.
Rita was a member of the Catholic Church and enjoyed knitting and playing cards.
