Robert (Bob) Joseph Baumgartner, 86, of Cut Bank, died February 11, 2013 at the Glacier Care Center of natural causes. A memorial celebrating Bob’s life will be held at a later date. Whitted Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Bob was born in 1926 to Godfrey and Rosa (Korteum) Baumgartner in Minnesota; then spent his childhood in North Dakota. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 1943 and served in World War II in the Pacific Theater. Upon returning to the states, he met and married Barbara Martin in Sarles, North Dakota. They moved to Cut Bank, Montana, where he lived the rest of his life.
Bob worked for Glacier Electric Cooperative for many years, first as a lineman and later as the warehouse foreman. He retired from GEC in 1988. Throughout his life, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, playing golf, and socializing with friends at local watering establishments. He also spent many summer weekends at his cabin near Essex. His sense of humor and easy-going manner will be sorely missed.
Survivors include his wife of many years, Barbara of Cut Bank; daughter, Leslie of Everett, WA; son, Joe of Edmonds, WA; sister, Mary Ann Holsinger of Fargo, ND; and brother, Leo Baumgartner of San Diego, CA.
