Robert D. Campanian, 80, passed March 13, 2020 in Albany, NY. Bob was born December 19, 1939 in Lewistown to Leo Campanian and Veda (Hildahl) Campanian. When he was around 4 years old, he and his mom moved to the west coast where he grew up in Vallejo, CA in the San Francisco bay area, and graduated from Vallejo High School. Bob worked as a welder at Kaiser Steel and then for Mare Island Naval Shipyard for 25 years where he received many awards for his excellent work performance. He retired from MINS in 1995 when the shipyard started to close and was able to work in private industry part time for the next few years.
Bob met his wife, Kathy, in 1980 and they lived in Vallejo until 2007 when they moved back to Montana. They resided in Sweet Grass and would also spend part time in upstate New York where Kathy was originally from as they both enjoyed the change of lifestyles. Bob was an avid hunter and fisherman and Sweetgrass was his favorite place for that. He also enjoyed BBQs with friends and family and finding items for his many and varied interests and collections. With his creative mind and skilled hands, Bob never ran out of “projects” to enjoy and created a lifestyle he and Kathy lived and loved for 40 years.
Bob is survived by his wife, Kathy; sons, Jerry (Dale) Campanian and Greg Campanian; half-brother, Danny Campanian; half-sisters, Carmella (Lew) Grill and Linda (Dave) Mydland; 10 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded by his parents, Leo and Veda; son, Dean; brothers, Frank (Eva), Howard; half-brother, Leo John; and sisters, Lucia and Margaret.
A graveside service at Sweetgrass Cemetery will be 2:00 pm on Wednesday, June 24, 2020.
