Ron D. Sonju

October 23, 1954 — December 2, 2019

Shelby

Ronald Dale Sonju, 65, passed away unexpectedly on December 2, 2019 at Marias Medical Center.

Ron was born October 23, 1954 to Norman and Irene (Loomis) Sonju in Conrad.  Ron grew up and attended school in Shelby.  He married the love of his life, Diana Sargent, on July 3, 1992.  Together they were blessed with and raised two sons, Jeff and Ron.

Early on Ron worked in the oilfield and was a carpenter in his own right.  He was a perfectionist with any job he did.  Ron was known for his drywalling and being a hard worker.  He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and was a talented artist.

Ron lost his knee on October 27, 1996 while doing what he loved, hunting. This did not stop him from the outdoors.  Even though it was a struggle he still managed to hunt and fish.  Ron did miss hunting for elk up at Alice Creek.

Ron’s hobbies were carving wood, ivory, and soft stone and making something beautiful.  He enjoyed looking for buffalo skulls and antlers on the riverbanks.   He loved fixing anything and spending time with his family and was a doting father and uncle.

Survivors include wife; sons, Jeff and Ron of Shelby; brother, Randy of Reno, NV; nieces and nephews, Nicole (Troy) Tobias, Kelli and Jon; 5 great nieces; 2 great nephews; mother-in-law, Dorothy Sargent; in-laws, Joe and Lucia Sargent; brothers and sisters-in-law, Paula, Joe (Ali) Jim (JoLynn), Laura (Michael), and Amanda (Ryan); and 2 nieces; cousins; and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Rodney.

At Ron’s request, there will be no services.
