Rose Mary (Cushing) Campbell passed away on February 25, 2025 in Chester, at the age of 89,
surrounded by her family. Rose was born on June 19, 1935 in Chester to Ray and Elizabeth (Muir)
Cushing. Chester has always been home to Rose and she loved being near the Sweet Grass Hills.
Rose graduated from Chester High School in 1954 and attended Kinman Business College in Spokane
WA. During her summers, she worked for her Uncle Dave Muir in Wyoming where she taught fly-fishing
and horseback riding to guests at his Dude Ranch. Returning to Chester, Rose worked at the Extension
Office, Assessor’s Office and in the County Treasury before being elected as the Liberty County Treasurer
until she retired.
Rose’s hobbies included painting and gardening. She was a 4-H leader for many years, on the board of
The Lutheran Church and volunteered at the Liberty County Museum.
Rose and her husband, Thomas (Tim) Campbell, raised cattle and also cared for several horses, dogs and
cats over the course of their lives. One of the highlights of her life was participating in the Montana
Centennial Cattle Drive in 1989.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Tom & Jim Cushing and her husband, Tim. She
is survived by her siblings Betty Nickol in Ledger, Bob Cushing in Billings, Dave (Ellen) Cushing in
Lakeside, and Pat Seibert in Sedalia, Missouri. She has three children, Steve Campbell (Sheri) in
Whitefish, Kathy Jutila (Mark) in Bozeman and Jody Reichle (Robert) in Glen. Rose has eight
grandchildren, Jamie (AJ), Kelly(Nate), Aaron (Katherine), Tyler, Tiffany, Amber (Mike), Scott (Brittany),
Shonn (Jamie); 16 great-grandchildren and various nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is planned at a later date.
