Sanford “Sandy” E. Anderson, 88, of Joplin, passed away Thursday, September 6th, at the Liberty Medical Center in Chester after a long battle with cancer. Family graveside services were held at the Joplin Cemetery.
Sandy was born on March 4th, 1930 in Ambrose, ND to Oscar & Elnora Anderson. He was 7th born of 12 children, he being the first boy.
Sandy served in the US Navy from 1952-1956. Because of his previous experience running a Caterpillar, he was assigned that duty in Guam. He married Arlene Johnson in 1954 and had three children; Sandy, Ron & Sherry. He was the rural mail carrier, worked for the International dealership and farmed. His interests included bowling, playing pan with his buddies and going to Jazz Festivals.
Survivors are wife of 64 years, Arlene; son, Sandy (Jeanette) & their children, Jason (Jen), Doug (Courtney); Ron; Sherry (Scott) Johnson & their children, Adam (Shelby) Wood, Michael (Keisha) Wood & step children, Desiree (Val), Serena (Caleb) and Crystal (Hammond). He is also survived by 7 great grandchildren, soon to be 8 and siblings, Lowell (Joan) Anderson and Doris Waldron.
He was preceded in death by his parent, Oscar & Elnora; sisters, Louise, Bernice, Grace, Dolly, Marlys, Lois, Donna, Lola; and brother, Don.
Our greatest comfort is that Sandy is now in the presence of God with his family and his special friend & brother in law, Gordon Lyle.
