Sigrid (Asgeirsson) Hjartarson

Sigrid Hjartarson a long time farmer/rancher from Ethridge Montana, died at age 91 on November 13, 2015 at Marias Care Center in Shelby.

A memorial service will be 2:00 pm on Friday, November 27 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Cut Bank.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitted Funeral Chapel. Of course it goes without saying, everyone is welcome.

Sigrid was born on January 14, 1924 in Reykjavik , Iceland to Jon (Yown) and Gudrun Asgeirsson.  Sigrid graduated from high school and went on to get her two year degree in cosmetology.

Sigrid met and married a handsome naval officer.  Leaving her family behind, Sigrid left Iceland to follow the love of her life, Gardar Hjartarson back to the farm in Ethridge, Montana.  Sigrid worked hard raising 5 children, cooking for the hired men that worked on the farm, and the many kids that were visiting. Everyone was welcome in the Hjartarson house.

After her father's death in Iceland in 1955, Gardar and Sigrid brought her mother home to the farm where she added to the family.

She had faith in Jesus and made sure she passed her faith in God on to her family.

Sigrid was preceded by her husband Gardar Hjartarson in 2002 and her parents.

Sigrid is survived by her 5 children, Jon (Yown) (Debbie) Hjartarson, Doreen (Butch) Gillespie of Ethridge, Marie, Evelyn Hjartarson, Marleen Hjartarson (Lee Seifert);  grandchildren, Alan Schmitt, Jesse Hjartarson, Kisten and Kent Gillespie, Cherish and Erin, Starbuck Seifert; great grandchildren Thea Gillespie, Alaina, Kaila, and Jaden Hjartarson, and several others.
