Stanley Russell, age 77, of Shelby, passed away from natural causes on Thursday, August 14, 2014 in Great Falls, Montana.
His funeral service will be 3:00 pm on Saturday, August 16 at First Baptist Church in Shelby, Montana. He will be interred at Mountain View Cemetery also in Shelby.
Stanley was born on June 9, 1937 in Glasgow, Montana to Stanley and Beth Russell. He attended various Valley County country schools where his mother taught. He graduated from Opheim, Montana in 1956. He then went to Northern Montana College in Havre and later North Dakota State College of Science.
He worked in the oil fields for 8 to 10 years and then went to work for the railroad in 1967 where he was a track inspector and later as supervisor until he had to retire due to an injury in October of 1996.
Stanley met and married his wife Dolores in Hinsdale, Montana. They later moved to Shelby to raise their family that include one son and two daughters. He enjoyed hunting, gardening and raising rabbits. Later in life he enjoyed watching TV, listening to music, working on Sudoku puzzles, reading and visiting with family and friends.
He is survived by his brother, Dennis, of Great Falls; son, Tony, of Casper, Wyoming; daughters Valerie of Shelby and Elizabeth of Missoula; 4 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Dolores.
Final arrangements have been entrusted to Whitted Funeral Chapel in Shelby. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be made the charity of choice.
