Ted attended Bonnie Crest (Union School) County School until he was eighth grade, at which time he stayed on the ranch. He helped his mother with the ranch chores and raising the younger children because of his father’s early death.
In his teen years, he worked on several different farms in the Ledger Community. He met the love of his life Jessie Sherrard who he married on September 12, 1947. Together they bought the family ranch along the Marias River from Anna Fowler. They lived on the river until 1955 when Tiber Dam was constructed, forcing the family to relocate to their new home on top of the hill. Ted and Jessie had 4 children Judy, David, Kathy and Jeanne. Together they lived and raised their family on the Fowler Ranch which till this day holds many memories of his children’s and grandchildren’s first experiences of life. Including many hours spent in the meat room butchering steers, pigs, and wild game. Until they later retired to a home near Pendroy.
Throughout Ted and Jessie’s 64 years of marriage, they enjoyed dancing and card playing with many of the family and friends. At Ted and Jessie’s 60 th Wedding Anniversary party, Ted made it a point to dance with all of the women in his family before the night was over.
After Jessie’s death in November 2011, Ted spent his first winter alone then sold their Pendroy home and moved into Horizon Lodge in Conrad. In 2014 he moved to the Marias Manor in Shelby, and after a traumatic fall he spent the last months of his full life under the loving and watchful eyes of the staff at the Glacier Care Center in Cut Bank.
Ted was preceded in death by his wife Jessie, 2 infant children, his parents Ted Sr. and Anna (Ruby) Fowler, sister Ruby Robertson, and a brother Allen Fowler.
