Tony Lunda

June 21, 1935 — August 29, 2024

Shelby

Sigurd Anton Lunda Jr (Tony) passed away Thursday August 29th, 2024. Tony was born in Dunkirk, MT to Johanna and Sigurd Lunda Sr on July 21st 1935. His family moved briefly to Minnesota before settling in Shelby. Tony graduated from Shelby High School in 1953 and went on to Kinman Business University in Spokane, WA where he obtained a degree in Business. After graduation, he moved back to Shelby where he started working for Toole County State Bank. Tony met his wife, Beatrice, in 1967, and after a brief courtship they were married in Reno, Nevada in 1968. Their first son, Travis, was born in 1969 followed by their son, Tyler, in 1970. In 1980 Bea and Tony adopted their son, Thatcher. Shortly after, the family moved to the Marias Fair Grounds. Tony managed the fair grounds for almost ten years before buying the Shelby Liquor Store and operating his small business until his retirement.

Tony loved doing his crossword puzzles and playing pinochle and pitch at the senior center where he frequently enjoyed going to visit his friends. He regularly attended Sunday services at St Luke’s Lutheran Church. He always loved to brag that he was a die-hard Norwegian Lutheran and he never missed a Lutefisk Dinner. His dry humor regularly got him into trouble with his wife. He enjoyed every moment he could at his family cabin in East Glacier Park, and he never missed episode of Jeopardy. He will be deeply missed by all of those that were lucky enough to have known him. His love and dedication to his friends and family will live on through the many lives he touched.

Tony is survived by his wife of 56 years, Bea; a son, Thatcher (Erika); grandson Elijah Reems; brother Erik Lunda (Esther); a sister, Myrtle Myer; and many nieces and nephews.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Sigurd and Johanna; by two of his sons, Travis and Tyler; by 3 sisters, Dorothy Parpolia, Hattie Appley, and Baby Marie Anna; and by 3 brothers (John Lunda, Albert Lunda, and Harry Lunda).

The services will be held on Saturday, September 7th at 2:00 PM at Saint Luke’s Lutheran Church in Shelby,MT with graveside service at Mountain View Cemetery and a reception to follow at St Luke’s Lutheran Church. Services will be streamed live on the St. Luke's Lutheran Church Facebook page.
