Velma Lillian Dumontier, 89, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012 at the Northern Rockies Medical Center due to complications of pneumonia.
Celebration of her life will be held at the Cut Bank Community Bible Church on Saturday, Dec. 1, at 10 a.m. with refreshments to follow. Per her wishes, she was cremated and her ashes will be scattered near the Babb area in the mountains this summer. Whitted Funeral Chapel of Shelby is in charge of arrangements.
Velma was born Jan. 11, 1923 on a family ranch north of Babb near the Canadian Border, the eldest daughter of Mary and August Augare. Velma and Walter were married in May of 1946 Walter passed away in 1994. She contracted polio in 1952 and was a paraplegic but this did not stop her from excelling in life. She was an expert seamstress and taught herself accounting for which she did taxes for many people over the years.
Velma was a Foundation Member of the Cut Bank Community Bible Church in Cut Bank; she loved having Bible Studies in her home; she was a Lifetime Member of the VFW Auxiliary #6104 and was very active in the organization; she was a 4-H leader teaching one of her passions, sewing and also helped with the 4-H Junior Leadership Program; she even helped with managing a Softball team for a couple of years; she worked at the Senior Citizens for a time and loved going there for activities. Some of her favorite pas-times were spending time with her great-granddaughter, Sky Lynn, who lived most of her life with her; painting; crocheting; crossword puzzles; sewing; jigsaw puzzles; and it was near impossible to win a game of Scrabble with her.
Survivors include her sister Odna Rossman (Walter); her daughters, Linda Dusterhoff (Wayne) of East Glacier Park, Myrna Alme of Cut Bank, Francee Martin (Mark) of Okalahoma; her sons Ron Dumontier (Debbie) of North Dakota, Jim Dumontier of South Dakota, John Dumontier of Billings and Ron Palmer (Ruth) of Oregon. She also had 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grand-children, five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather Ray Sanders; her husband Walter; her son Raymond; brothers Harold and Breezy Augare; and sister Alma Harmon.
Velma will be missed by her family and many friends she had in the community. With her, the angels fly and she will at last walk with her Father in Heaven free from the burden of her pain and her wheelchair. Velma, Mom, Gramma, Auntie, Sister, Friend...you will be missed.
