Warren J. Swenson, age 90, passed away, March 16, 2014 at Northern Rockies Medical Center in Cut Bank. He was born May 27, 1923 in Kevin, MT to Axel and Cornelia (Schaffer) Swenson.
He farmed in the area for the last 80 years, growing wheat, a tradition he has passed down to his family. He always has been a hard worker, and even drove the combine when he was 85 years old. Farming was not only his profession, but his passion, as he loved doing it because it gave him great joy. It also allowed him to be creative with different machines and tools that he created to make farming easier.
His family remembers him as very hard worker, but also as someone who would take time for them. He taught his children and many of their friends to waterski. Warren enjoyed hunting, and on a hunting trip earned the nickname “Big Gun”, while he was hunting for moose in Canada with a .300 Weatherby Magnum. Warren helped and supported many people in the area. He was a people person, and the only stranger he had was someone he hadn’t met yet.
He was a 45 year member of the Cut Bank Moose Lodge, and a 60 year member of the Cut Bank Elks Lodge, where he was one of the founding members of the Friday night dinner group.
Warren is survived by his children Mary Ann (Gary) Fauque, Jerry (Zona) Swenson, Frances (Steve) Noreen, and Dick (Penne) Swenson, all of Cut Bank; his special friend, Lou Brownlee of Cut Bank; a sister Margaret Wagner of British Columbia; 9 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be 12:00 noon followed by the funeral service at 1:00 pm on Thursday, March 20 both at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Cut Bank. Warren will be interred at Crown Hill Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to The Cut Bank Elks Lodge, or The Wishing Well. Please visit Warren’s online tribute and leave a message of condolence for the family at www.whittedfuneralchapel.com.
