Warren Duane Wickum was born December 26, 1951 in Conrad to Roy and Maxine (Fowler) Wickum. He died September 29, 2018 with his wife of 43 years at his side, in his home near Hill, MT at the base of East Butte, Sweetgrass Hills following a 2 1/2 year battle with lung cancer.
He grew up on the farm at Hill, MT, hunting, fishing and riding motorcycles with his cousins and neighbors. He attended grade school through the 6th grade at the Hill school, 20 miles north of Chester and graduated from Chester High School in 1970.
Warren was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church and was a lifelong member there, serving on various boards. During the last few weeks of his life, he mentioned to his family that he felt he had lived a full life and was content and at peace with the Lord. He never stopped fighting because there was always a couple more things to do.
Warren married Marcia Cresswell in 1975. Together they farmed and ranched and raised 3 children. Warren loved his occupation and considered it a privilege to farm and ranch, nestled in the beautiful Sweet Grass Hills. He enjoyed going camping in Glacier Park every summer and taking his kids and grandkids hiking and fishing. His grandchildren will remember him for always giving them a big bag of candy from North 40 “because their parents won’t buy them any.”
Warren was the guy that always had 5 minutes anywhere to make a friend out of a stranger.
Survivors include his mother Maxine Wickum of Chester, his wife Marcia Wickum and 2 grandchildren, Warren Thomas and Saige Bachteler, residing at the family farm, daughter Kresta Wickum of Chester, son Lance (Brenda) Wickum with their children Ivan, Erik, Isaac, and Zoe of Shelby, MT and son Robert Wickum, also residing at the family farm. Siblings include Wayne Wickum, Cliff (Helen) Wickum, Ann Wickum, Bev Wickum, and Dale Wickum.
Warren was preceded in death by his father, Roy Wickum, and his grandparents: Richard and Beulah Wickum, and Theodore and Ann Fowler.
Services will be held Wednesday, October 3, at 11am at Trinity Lutheran Church, 17 miles North of Lothair. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial will follow in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery with a reception at the church following the burial.
