William J. (Bill) Linn, 78, passed away from cancer on Friday April 15, 2011 at the Marias Care Center in Shelby, with his family by his side.
Bill was born in Great Falls, Montana on June 17, 1932 to William and Marie Linn. He was raised in Great Falls and found the love of his life, Donna May Heppner. They were married August 7, 1955. They were married 51 years and had three children.
Bill is survived by his son Randy (Debra) Linn of Great Falls, daughters Debbie (Brad) of Devon, and Pam (Todd) Vandersloot of Ridgefield, WA; sisters, Ida Mae (Frank) Fraser of Colorado Springs, CO., Phyllis Kendig of Clatskanie, OR., and Peggy (Chet) Johnson of Great Falls, MT.; brothers, Bob (Darlene) Linn, Kenny (Marcie) Linn, Jerry (Barb) Linn, Dean (Nancy) Linn, John Linn all of Great Falls, MT., and Gene (Sharon) Linn of Gillette WY; seven grandchildren, Joey Adams, Kelly (Derek) Logan, Katie (Shawn) Holm, David Linn, Casey Vandersloot, Cody Vandersloot and Cassandra Vandersloot; one great-grandchild, Zoe; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Donna; a grand-daughter Heidi; his parents, William and Marie; and three sisters, Esther, Pat and Clara.
Bill had various jobs throughout his life. He was a pin setter at the local bowling alleys. He worked for Meadow Gold, Beatrice Foods, Penningtons (transferring to Shelby in 1965), the Oil Rigs, and State of Montana with the Department of Transportation Highway Maintenance. On November 26, 1993 he retired from the State of Montana.
During his retirement he kept busy doing many different things that he enjoyed. He took great pride in his yard and garden. Bill lived life to the fullest when he was able to visit with family and friends or while he was doing one of his favorite hobbies.
He was called Bill, Dad, Grandpa, Pa by his family and all will miss his smile, his love , the care he gave each one of us individually and most of all the beautiful person that he was. Please join us in his celebration of life on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at St Luke’s Lutheran Church in Shelby with burial to follow at the Mountain View Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday April 18, 2011 from 1-9 p.m. at Whitted Funeral Chapel in Shelby.
He will be truly missed by his family and friends.
