William Michael Mitch, of Cut Bank, passed away on Sunday, August 23 at the Kindred Park Place Care Center in Great Falls.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 28, 2015 at the LDS Church in Cut Bank, which is located at 414 6 th Avenue S.E. The viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. with services at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery, Cut Bank. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitted Funeral Chapel in Cut Bank.
Bill was born in Glasgow, Montana on December 3, 1932 to Tony and Lois Hayes Mitch. In March of 1941, the Mitch family moved to Cut Bank, and Bill’s father became partners with Martha Rieder in Rieder & Co., Inc., the International Harvester dealer.
Bill got out of high school in 1952 and in November of that year joined the U.S. Navy. This was during the Korean Conflict, and his ship was involved in transporting Korean prisoners of war. He was discharged two and a half years later, and returned to Cut Bank to work with his father.
During the spring of 1956, Bill met Marie Blanche Olson. They were married on October 13, 1956 in Cut Bank. Two years later, the family moved to Bozeman, where Bill was employed by Owenhouse Hardware and as the service manager for Robert F. Dye, the Cadillac and Pontiac dealer.
In the spring of 1968, the family returned to Cut Bank. He worked for Reider & Co. for two years before becoming employed by the Glacier County Road Department. After 23 years, he retired in December of 1993. Bill enjoyed participating in activities with the Cut Bank Saddle Club, the Glacier Penguins RV Club, and was a member of the LDS Church, the VFW, and the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Marie; daughter, Patty (Chris) McIntyre of Utah; three grandchildren, Laura McIntyre of Utah, Mitch McIntyre of Texas, and Tony (Courtney) McIntyre of New Jersey. Bill was looking forward to the birth of his first great-grandson this next month.
